All that is gold by Roald Dahl
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
The boy, the man, and the donkey
There was a man and his son, traveling on a donkey. Then the man overheard the people say, “He’s overburdening the donkey”. The man got off and left his son on. The people said, “Look at the boy–he is letting the old man walk while he sits on the donkey!” So the man got on the donkey and made his son get off. The people said, “Look at the man, he is abusing his child.” At which point the old man and the son picked up the donkey and started carrying it, and the people said, “Look at them– they’re idiots.” 😛
Moral: You can’t please everyone
